5-Night Iditarod Delight

This 5 night Iditarod Delight is a great way to experience the Iditarod!  This package is short & sweet combining everything we love about the Last Great Race including the banquet, dog sledding tour and the restart tour out to Willow Lake!  Combine this 5 night package in Anchorage, with another 5 night package in Fairbanks (customized just for you!) and you can expect a great Iditarod experience!

Day 1

Wednesday, February 29th

Arrive into Anchorage where Salmon Berry Tours will pick you up at the airport and deliver you safely to your downtown home for the week. If you arrive early enough we will have dinner reservations made for you at one of our local favorite dining spots!

Day 2

Thursday, March 1st

Today's adventure takes us south along the Turnagain Arm.  Highlights include: The Alaska Wildlife Conservation Center, a snowshoe walk in Moose Meadows, lunch at The Bake Shop (our favorite little local eatery in Girdwood) and the Alyeska Aerial Tramway.  After your tour you will go directly with your guide to the 2012 Musher's Banquet.  This banquet takes place in downtown Anchorage where the mushers all gather to draw their bib numbers & place in the race.  Cheer on your favorite musher, participate in the lively auction & enjoy dinner.  Transportation is also included back to your downtown accommodations.

Day 3

Friday, March 2nd

Winter Dog Mushing w/ Dallas Seavey Racing starts with a pick up at 9am. Your guide will bring you north to Willow, Alaska. Here Dallas Seavey, his wife,Jen, and their daughter, Annie, with some help from their kennel hands will show us a sneak peak into their lives. We will visit their kennel, have lunch, then go enjoy some fun on the trails. Each guest will have a chance to get autographs, ask questions and mush with a competitive racing team! There is limited availability for this special tour conducted on the Friday before the big race!

Day 4

Saturday, March 3rd

Today is the Ceremonial Start of the 2012 Iditarod. Grab a Fur Rondevous guide and purchase an official Iditarod magazine then select your spot on 4th Avenue! The race starts at the corner of 4th & D Street and follows 4th Avenue to Cordova where it will make a right hand turn to go down the hill. Remember your camera and extra batteries then enjoy your day today!

Day 5

Sunday, March 4th

The Official Re-Start of the 2012 Iditarod will be at Willow Lake. We will pick you up and our guides will bring you north in our comfortable touring vans offering hot chocolate & homemade scones to enjoy before we get out to the lake. The starting line is on a frozen lake so dress warm, but rest assured, if you need some hand warmers we have them! Our canvas tent is located just a few feet from the Starting Line so make your way over when you feel like some reindeer dogs, chili and cornbread, smoked salmon spread and brownies! Hot chocolate and water available as well. VIP parking makes it easy to go home. You will get back into the vans to head back into Anchorage without having to walk the 1/2mi to the parking lot!

Day 6

Monday, March 5th

Thank you for sharing your vacation with us all at Salmon Berry Tours! Your itinerary ends with a guided tour to the airport.
