Ultimate Iditarod 2014: Fairbanks Pre-Iditarod Package

Before you start our 9 day Iditarod adventure based out of Anchorage, consider heading north to Fairbanks for some fun!  Fly direct into Fairbanks to experience aurora viewing at a remote lodge in a village above the Arctic Circle, an ice fishing day tour complete with a fresh fish dinner to celebrate your catch, a soak in the Chena Hot Springs, nightly aurora viewing and a scenic rail trip back into Anchorage.  This package is perfect for travelers who want to experience all there is to offer in Alaska during the winter months - you will bid farewell to Alaska knowing you have done it all!

Day 1

Monday, February 17th

Fly direct into Fairbanks International Airport.  Your hotel will have a shuttle bus available to pick you up!  From here you will be taken to your overnight accommodations. Your hotel is walking distance to shops, eateries and activities in Fairbanks!  Be sure to ask for a Northern Lights wake up call when you check in.  If they are spotted, the front desk will call to inform you to look outside!

Day 2

Tuesday, February 18th

Enjoy the hotel's continental breakfast before setting out on today's tour!  Your tour guide will pick you up at 11am to take you ice fishing!  The ice fishing tour includes arctic gear you may need, a light lunch, and hot drinks during your day on the frozen lake.  After the day tour today, enjoy your fresh catch for dinner at your guide's cabin! 

Day 3

Wednesday, February 19th

Take flight to Bettles this afternoon, a remote village 35 miles north of the Arctic Circle.  For your next two days of adventure you will be north of the Arctic Circle.  There are limited rooms with private bath on the lodge property, if interested book early!  At this lodge, enjoy the best food north of the Arctic Circle, prepared by the on-site chef, roundtrip airfare from Fairbanks, a village tour, self-guided aurora viewing nightly, and various activities on site.

Day 4

Thursday, February 20th

Today enjoy breakfast then activities of your choice!  Rent a pair of snow shoes or skis, visit the National Park Service Visitors Center, or take an Ice Road excursion (not included in package price).  Rest up for an evening of aurora viewing again!  They also offer the chance to go out to their aurora viewing cabins.

Day 5

Friday, February 21st

After breakfast this morning, take flight back into Fairbanks.  The afternoon is yours to explore...Check out the Fairbanks Ice Museum, the Cultural Center or the Museum of the North!

Day 6

Saturday, Febrary 22nd

Sleep in & get ready for tonight's aurora borealis viewing!  Your guide will pick you up at your hotel to take you to Chena Hot Springs.  Your tour will include a soak/swim pass and there is a restaurant at the resort with meals for purchase.  Don't forget your swim suit and sandals for this adventure!

Day 7

Sunday, Febrary 23rd

Wake up early, enjoy your continental breakfast & hit the rails heading south today all the way to Anchorage.  Pass by unique rail towns like Denali, Talkeetna, and Wasilla until you reach Anchorage. This rail tour is a full day but an absolutely beatufiul way to spend the day!  Your Salmon Berry Tours guide will be there at the rail depot to bring you to your downtown Anchorage accommodations.
