Alaska in October is a special time to see a unique transition from the midnight sun to the crisp winter. The Arctic starts to freeze, the northern lights start to dance, the dog mushers begin training for the Iditarod Sled Dog Race, and Seward is a quiet, seaside setting.
This travel package includes an locally guided look at the best of Alaska during this time of the year. ITINERARY
Day One – September 28 – Welcome to Anchorage
Welcome to Anchorage! Enjoy a 7pm welcome dinner with your local guide to go over your itinerary for your week in Alaska! Overnight Anchorage (D)
Day Two – September 29 – Alaska Railroad & Dog Sledding with Iditarod Champion Kennel
Travel aboard the iconic Alaska Railroad to Talkeetna this morning. Enjoy lunch in town before meeting the canine athletes for a Fall Dog Sledding Tour at the kennel of Dallas Seavey Racing. Guests will get to meet the dogs, learn what it takes to be an Iditarod musher all while providing a look at a true Alaskan lifestyle. A local craft brewery tour and dinner together at the Denali Brewing Company. Overnight Talkeetna Cabin with private bath accommodations (B,L, D)
Day Three – September 30 – Flight Tour with Glacier Landing in Denali National Park & Northern Lights Viewing
Enjoy brunch at the Talkeetna Roadhouse this morning! Today, take to the skies for a Mount Denali Flight Tour with Glacier Landing. See the Great Gorge of the Ruth Glacier (the deepest canyon in North America), view the Don Sheldon amphitheater and witnessing the stunning snow-capped peaks! The glaciers and their intense blue meltwater pools and cascading icefalls make for a dramatic landscape only to be fully appreciated by aerial views. Step out of the plane and onto the snow-covered glacier ice on Mount Denali inside Denali National Park – with 15-20 minutes to stop and revel in the remote wilderness. This evening after dinner, meet our local star lady for an aurora presentation before setting out in search of the illusive northern lights! Overnight Talkeetna Cabin with private bath accommodations (B,L, D)
Day Four – October 1 – Anchorage Highlights Tour
Today is a leisurely travel day to the seaside town of Seward with a dinner upon arrival. Your local guide provides a full day of exploration in Southcentral Alaska. Included in your day is a city tour of Anchorage with highlights at the port of Anchorage, Earthquake Park, Lake Hood seaplane base and a drive into the Chugach State Park for aerial views of the town before arriving into Seward. Lunch is provided at a local eatery en route. Overnight Seward Harbor in a view room with private bath accommodations (B,L,D)
Day Five – October 2 – Resurrection Bay Wildlife Cruise and exclusive Alaska SeaLife Center Visit
Explore Seward with the locals today! Visit the Alaska SeaLife Center with an exclusive Octopus experience tour. Step into the center before it opens for a chance to participate in a hands-on squid activity, observe an octopus feeding and learn more about these fascinating creatures. Then set out into Resurrection Bay on a 3.5 hour Wildlife Cruise where your captain will navigate the Orca Song day boat into popular wildlife viewing areas to look for eagles, sea otters, harbor seals, sea lions and whales in Resurrection Bay. This evening sit down to an Alaskan Fresh catch farewell dinner. Overnight Seward Harbor in a view room with private bath accommodations (B,L,D)
Day Six – October 3 – Scenic Turnagain Arm
Following check out, take the Seward to Anchorage Tour & Transfer with highlights along the Turnagain Arm including the mountain town of Girdwood where we will ascend the Mt. Alyeska Aerial Tramway and the Alaska Wildlife Conservation Center before our afternoon arrival at the Anchorage International Airport: Approximately 4:00pm (B, L)
Booking Policy: 50% deposit required to start the booking, the final balance is due 90 days prior to secure your reservations. Final itineraries are sent following your final balance at 60 days prior to travel date.
Multi-Day Itinerary Cancellation Policy: A 50% deposit is required to start the booking process and secure your spot on the tour. Remainder is due 90 days prior to travel. Cancellations must be made in writing (email, fax, or mail). Processing fee of $100 per guest plus 10% processing fee applies for cancellations more than 60 days before travel. No refund applies if cancellation is received less than 60 days prior to travel.
