Buildings OPEN for Summer 2020 from 10am - 6pm daily - the buildings open this summer tell the story of the mine. The people, the tools and the milling process. Feel free to come on up and visit these buildings! Masks are required in all buildings. NOTE: If you wish to purchase a mask, we have single use masks for $1 and washable, 3 layer masks made with locally sourced fabrics for $8. A percentage of your purchases at the mine will go back to the State Park - thank you for your support!

TOURS Available! Curious about the Gold Rush, pioneering families of Hatcher Pass, and local flora/fauna? Our local tour guides will provide daily interpretation on a variety of subjects highlighting the history of Independence Mine State Historical Park. The preservation of this cultural heritage of Alaska is the foundation of topic discussion on this 45 minute tour. Meet us at Bunkhouse No. 2 for a field lecture! These field lectures will provide you a chance to visit some of the closed mine buildings to really learn how a miner's life would have been led between 1938 and 1950. We get the behind the scenes tour of the bunkhouse, the apartment building and the mess hall when you go on this locally guided tour!

***COVID Considerations: Masks are required on tour and in all mine buildings - if on tour and you do not have one, one will be provided for you complimentary! There is a hand washing station available in Bunkhouse No. 2 as well as hand sanitizers in both the General Managers House and Bunkhouse No. 2. Our enhanced COVID procedures are meant to keep you and our team safe & healthy.
