ITINERARY
Day 1 – Friday, December 26
Welcome to Anchorage! Experience true Alaskan hospitality at this downtown boutique hotel. The cozy inn is within easy walking distance to activities and attractions downtown Anchorage as well as some of our favorite eateries. Enjoy dinner tonight with your local guide as well as a night walk to look at the lights at the Botanical Garden, a tradition for many Alaskans! This tour is designed to help you enjoy the magic and mystery of the northern lights and a great way to experience Alaska in the Winter.
Today Includes: Welcome Dinner, Botanical Garden Lights Admission, Overnight Anchorage (D)
Day 2 – Saturday, December 27
All Aboard! Travel north aboard the Alaska Railroad to the village of Talkeetna. Here we will bundle up & go dog sledding with six-time Iditarod champion kennel, Dallas Seavey Racing! This adventure is one hour of riding the runners of the dog sled on the training trails at Dallas Seavey Racing, meeting the four-legged athletes, and touring the kennel with plenty of time for pictures with the dogs! The dog sled ride is an iconic 5 mile mush through the boreal forest of Talkeetna – learning the basic commands to navigate your team along the established trail. Moderate fitness level is recommended. For those not wanting to drive their own team, join your musher guide to sit and enjoy the views from a tour sled!
Your Salmon Berry Tours guide will provide you with lunch and dinner today! Dinner is at the Denali Brewpub Restaurant with your fellow travelers. An aurora presentation after dinner is a great way for travelers to understand the science behind the Alaska night sky and the aurora borealis phenomenon!
Today Includes: Dog Sledding with Dallas Seavey Racing, Beer Tasting & Dinner at Denali Brewing Company, Aurora Presentation, Overnight Talkeetna (B, L, D)
Day 3 – Sunday, December 28
Talkeetna is the supply and aviation base for Denali expeditions, so it’s only fitting we take to the skies for a birds eye view of Denali National Park. This 60-minute flightseeing tour gives everyone a window seat to experience the sweeping views. An Alaska bush-plane pilot will tell you about the area as you soar through the Alaska Range. Follow the river systems of Talkeetna across the Susitna Valley into an incredible landscape of icefalls, glaciers, blue meltwater pools and snowy peaks, above the Don Sheldon amphitheater and through the Great Gorge of the Ruth Glacier. IMPORTANT: Due to aircraft manufacturer’s seat weight limitations, we cannot accommodate passengers whose individual weight exceeds 375lbs (170kg).
This afternoon, your guide will take your small group out to lunch, a visit to the museum and the shops along main street.
Today Includes: Denali Flight Tour, Guided Town Tour, Overnight Talkeetna (B, L, D)
Day 4 – Monday, December 29
Travel from Talkeetna to Glacier View today via Palmer. A stop in the town of Palmer provides guests a chance to stretch their legs and enjoy dinner at another local eatery! Our destination today is Sheep Mountain Lodge, known for their Alaskan hospitality. Enjoy the evening at your leisure – aurora is commonly spotted over Sheep Mountain on clear nights. All guests are able to borrow headlamps with a red setting during their trips – this allows you to walk out of your cabin and along the groomed snow packed trails.
Today Includes: Guided Tour & Transfer to Glacier View, Overnight Sheep Mountain Lodge (B, L, D)
Day 5 – Tuesday, December 30
Wake up to an Alaska-sized breakfast before setting out on the Matanuska Glacier, a frozen 27-mile river of ancient ice. Thousands of years old, this massive glacier is tucked at the head of the Matanuska valley. On the ice with our expert guides, take stops to learn how the Matanuska glacier was created and how it shaped the surrounding landscape. Walking on ice is slippery fun, so we provide our guests with helmets, a trekking pole and microspikes that attach to your winter boots.
Today Includes: Matanuska Glacier Tour, Overnight Sheep Mountain Lodge (B, L, D)
Day 6 – Wednesday, December 31
Travel back to Anchorage today to ring in the New Year with the Fire & Ice Festival in downtown Anchorage! Fireworks start early here as we celebrate Eastern Standard Time but for those of you who want to ring in the new year in downtown, you are an easy walk to the inn! Dinner with a view is included for our last night.
Today Includes: Tour & Transfer to Anchorage, Fire & Ice Fireworks, Farewell Dinner & Champagne Toast to ring in the New Year! Overnight Anchorage (B, L, D)
Day 6 – Thursday, January 1
Farewell from Alaska! Check out is scheduled for 11:00am. If you have a later flight, consider a walk along the Tony Knowles Coastal Trail, steps from the inn!
Today Includes: Breakfast at the Inn (B)
Guest Mobility Requirements: We would consider this a moderately active tour. Guests will handle their own luggage into their cabins. Walkways are generally packed snow covered trails. There are stairs to enter cabins and at the inn.

Salmon Berry Travel & Tours recommends travel insurance provided by TravelSafe Insurance. Our recommendation is based on positive guest feedback. In particular, the experience of one Salmon Berry guest is instructive:
- Our guest had booked the vacation of a lifetime and the ultimate Alaska package. She had to cancel the trip a week before it began due to unfortunate circumstances.
- She later told us that within ten minutes of phone time her claim was processed in full. She was very pleased with TravelSafe Insurance’s immediate and empathetic response. Getting a refund for her trip was the last thing she wanted to think about, and TravelSafe Insurance took care of her needs and concerns immediately.
