Joan
Glacier Guide
Hi, I’m Joan and I love glaciers! After college I came to Alaska “for just one summer” and was hooked by the mountains, the beauty and the wilderness. I’ve been fortunate to work in many wonderful places across the state as a ranger for the National Park Service, a Forest Service naturalist, for non-profit organizations, and in tourism. One of the unexpected joys of being a Salmonberry tour guide is meeting interesting people from around the world – I learn something new from my guests every day. Additionally, I am trained in Wilderness First Aid and Glacier Trekking and Rescue to keep everyone safe as we have fun exploring this incredible state.
Favorite place –Alsek Lake in Wrangell-St. Elias National Park (BIG glaciers there)
Top pick – Glacier Turn Tour (because, well, glaciers! And also the drive along Turnagain Arm is one of the best in the state)
